Week 6 All About Apples

Yay For Fall Glitter image

This week was all about Apples! The students focused on learning how to identify the topic and details of informational text. The students used the information learned to label the parts of an apple.

The students continued to focus on letters and sounds with an emphasis on the five vowels. The students did a great job working in collaborative groups to hunt for the vowels, identify, and name their long and short sounds.

3d to 2d Guided Math
Students continued to build number sense focusing on the numbers 9 and 10. The students also focused on building one more/ one less. During Guided Practice, the students model the different ways to make numbers 9 and 10 using our life size ten frame and math manipulatives. Then, the students drew their interpretations of the different ways. This is what we call the 3d to 2d model, students ability to apply hands-on math to pencil and paper.

Fun Friday
Fun Friday was all about apples. The students started out the day practicing rhyming words using Kahoot. The students are truly becoming 21st century learners. They are learning in so many ways using hands-on, technology, and pencil & paper.

The students also were scientist. They observed, measured, weighed, and describe the characteristic of apples.

The students read the book Ten Apples Up On Top and responded by rolling a die and gluing that many apples on top of their head.

Students also tasted  red, green, and yellow apples to graph which apple they liked the best. Can you believe that our class liked green apples the best?

What better way to end our week about apples?
